Purchasing | Foreigners married to a Thai partner

Some foreigners buy a section under the name of a Thai relative, and then arrange a mortgage of the same amount as the purchase price, in order to ensure their own security. It is also possible to lease a piece of land from a Thai relative, as is described above.

For additional security, a combination of these two options is possible. A foreigner can also separately purchase an unlimited amount of real-estate such as houses or other buildings. In other words, a house can be owned in the name of the foreigner, but the section that it is on must be acquired with a lease, with or without the added security of a mortgage.

Foreigners who have a Thai partner, mostly choose the option of having the property registered on the name of the partner, which leaves the possibility of taking an added precaution by signing a lease agreement with your partner and having this registered at the District Council. Besides giving added security to the foreigner, it is also a way of insuring that in the case of the Thai partner dying, the foreigner can continue to live normally in his/her house.
